St. George. Burrington. St George Burrington has now been closed as a building for worship. The Church cemetary is still open and maintained by the parish You can still go and enjoy the peace and rural views A mostly Victorian rebuilt church of 1864, with a spire. It is in a very pretty setting. At the east end are eight cast iron grave slabs dating from the early 17th century. They are rare examples of early ironwork. They were made during the period when iron was worked at Downton Gorge. Like so many of our churches, situated as they are in wonderful countryside, the views and tranquillity are well worth a visit.
